Alright is my March submission to Shaina Taub’s monthly Brooklyn Song Forum. Some of the simplest lyrics I’ve ever recorded, but my goal this month was to write something that everyone could learn quickly and sing along with. During the break, instead of soloing, I vamped the bass line and taught everyone the outro “La-la-las.” Lots of fun.
Alright is a song that’s got me thinking about starting a new band. The Hey! have been on hiatus since December or so, and Boy Girl Party may not turn into a “play-out” sort of thing. I’ve been missing the fun of playing live with an electric group. We’ll see over the next few weeks, as I unveil other songs that have been inspired by these thoughts of a new band, whether or not I have the material that feels cohesive and necessary enough to get a group together.
lyrics
Alright!
Baby, let’s go all night!
Baby, hold you so tight!
Holdin on you
Oh my!
Got the moves that so right!
Got the look in yo eyes
I don’t know what to do
You rolled your eyes and spit my bones
And sold the soul of every one
I should have known what rabid bites can do
Oh babe you hit me so hard
Got some pieces knocked off
Got me screamin “oh Lord
What am I to do?”
On guard
Trippin from the work, hard
Runnin from the wolf parts
Don’t know what to do
Playing in the fire cracks
And giving boys their heart attacks
I never thought to rack my brain on you
But now I know the truly toll
You cut my skin and bit my bones
And shook the pieces left alone to brood
