Another shufflin’ little folk/protest tune for the sake of it. Wanted something with a slow build and a quiet core, while still keeping a dance element (I like to imagine one could do some sorta slow ballroom dance to the lounge guitar solo - maybe?).
This is perhaps a song for the Licks, which is becoming a live group for the first time ever this Spring. Friends Marian Kelly and Grace McLean and I started the group a few years ago on a lark and are just now getting around to putting the thing on its feet.
lyrics
Well someone blinded all the bulbs in the city of light
And the fake plastic stars lose their glow; fall, leaving holes in the sky
And everybody’s moving left, now moving back to the right
Shake the styrofoam boats til the holes all close up overnight
And tho I wish it were so easy
As to stand around dumb and repeating
That everything’s gonna be alright
Cuz we’ve got the bomb
And as we move through the west, all the ghost towns got wires coming out
And the zombies check their phones, putting words instead of thoughts in their mouths
And we’ve all heard good word thru the herd that we’ll be saved by the crown
Gonna move the mountains upwards, put the devil back below underground
And on that day we should believe it
But til that day you’re just deceiving us
When you say everything’s gonna be alright
Cuz we’ve got the bomb
Yeah they filled us up with stories
And we stand along as tape recorders chorus
That everything’s gonna be alright
Cuz we’ve got the bomb
